The role of occupational therapy

Occupational therapy is a health profession that encourages each person to engage in the everyday activities meaningful to them. It focuses on improving and maintaining physical function, mental health and independence — from a baby's first movements to dignified ageing.

Children & adolescents

Pediatric occupational therapy

Tailored to different age groups. In the first year it supports babies with handling, feeding and swallowing, play, fine motor skills and quality of movement.

With occupational therapy, children can:

  • Develop quality movement patterns.
  • Build fine motor skills, object manipulation and upper-limb coordination.
  • Develop graphomotor skills — grip, drawing and writing.
  • Strengthen eye–hand coordination for play and school skills.
  • Master daily activities: dressing, brushing teeth, feeding.
  • Learn to use medical-technical aids and adaptations.
Older adults

Occupational therapy for elderly

We focus on improving and maintaining physical function, mental health and independence in the daily activities that matter most.

Occupational therapy is for someone who:

  • Is recovering from injury or surgery and wants to keep muscle function.
  • Is facing central nervous system injury (stroke, brain injury).
  • Faces movement challenges due to age-related changes.
  • Lives with chronic illness (Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis).
  • Is facing cognitive changes and wants to keep daily independence.
  • Needs home adaptations to prevent falls.
